ANS Yamato (大和) is an Alliance class 1 carrier in Starlancer.

Description[ | ]

The Yamato was developed by the Alliance Strategic Defense Agency as the next generation of Strike carrier. The latest and largest of the Alliance Class 1 Strike carriers to be deployed with the Forward Fleet, it incorporates the best in offensive and defensive capabilities.

Mobility, flexibility, and combat readiness are the primary characteristics of the Yamato and her crew. As one of the Alliance's most powerful and capable class of warship, the Yamato's primary function is for power projection and as a platform for diplomacy throughout the Sol system.

The Yamato has seen active service in several actions since its deployment, primarily in border conflicts with factions of the now unified Coalition. The Yamato's base squadron, the Ronin, is a well-disciplined and respected outfit with a proven combat record. This combination of rapid deployment, heavy armament, and onboard fighter capability make the ANS Yamato a formidable military asset capable of confronting the best of the Coalition Fleet.

At the outset of The Sol War, the Yamato and the Ronin were ambushed by a fleet consisting of three Tornado class cruisers, supported by a class 1 carrier, one of the same family as the CS Pukov, CS Varyag, and CS Gegarin. The Yamato survived the battle, aided by the 110th Pumas, who jumped to its position after losing their base carrier, and the ANS Victorious, whose timely intervention blindsided the enemy class 1 carrier and resulted in its destruction.

On July 10, 2160, the Yamato was on almost constant patrol along the edges of Alliance space, and was responsible for the destruction of the CS Zakov and CS Kirov, intervening as the Pumas and the 45th Volunteers were almost forced to withdraw.[1]

On March 6, 2161, ANS Washington and the Yamato were involved in a push far into Coalition lines in recent operations, destroying a number of enemy convoys, as well as a Coalition forward supply base. Although Coalition forces attempted to counter attack, further losses along their front lines denied them reinforcements. The aggressive tactics paid dividends, as the Coalition was steadily forced onto the defensive. [2]

Encounters[ | ]

  • In the demo, the ANS Yamato is the base carrier of your squadron and has to be defended from the aforementioned onslaught. In the second mission it doesn't need defending, fortunately, and acts as a base carrier should.
  • The ANS Yamato is encountered first in mission 2, as it wipes out the CS Zakov and CS Kirov.
  • The Yamato later becomes your base carrier after the Reliant is lost on June 24, 2161 (Mission 15) and remains in that role for the remainder of the game.

  2. Transcripts: "March 6, 2161. Alliance forces, including the Carriers Yamato and Washington, pushed far into Coalition lines in recent operations, destroying a number of enemy convoys, as well as a Coalition forward supply base. Although Coalition forces attempted to counter attack, further losses along their front lines denied them reinforcements. Once again new aggressive tactics seem to be paying off, as the Coalition is forced onto the defensive. Admiral Caldwell is now almost certainly going to be voted in as the First Alliance President, after his main challenger, Terrance Hanlay, withdrew from the leadership contest. Hanlay, who refused to be interviewed, sent a press release stating that he was pulling out of the race due to ill health."
